How many sessions will I need?
CBT is short term therapy, in comparison to many other types of therapy, most people will have between 6 and 12 sessions.
It is very hard to suggest how many sessions of EMDR you may need. It can successfully treat some things (eg a single event trauma) in 2-4 sessions whilst for complex or developmental trauma it could take in excess of 20 sessions.
SSP is delivered via specially filtered music using the Unyte app. It uses five hours of listening therapy. An initial listening schedule is agreed after an assessment and this will be monitored by me throughout. The listening schedule will be updated on a very regular basis. Some people get through the five hours in a matter of weeks, for others it can be months. It is important that listening occurs at the correct frequency and length. Less better in SSP!
How often should I have EMDR or CBT sessions?
I would always suggest sessions either weekly or fortnightly initially. There are pros and cons for either but treatment outcomes are very similar. As you begin to feel better it is likely that you will begin to feel less frequent sessions are needed and sessions may then be better three or even four weeks apart before therapy comes to an end. Some clients like to come back for a top up session a few times a year.
